straight talk about wood finishing

Q: Can I use interior Varathane polyurethane in a bathroom where shower moisture may be a problem?

A: Yes, but I would use oil based, not waterbased, in a bathroom. Incidentally, there is no difference in water holdout between interior and exterior. The differences are that exterior polyurethane is more UV stable, it may contain mildewcide, depending on the brand, and in most cases it is more flexible than interior, allowing for more extreme wood movement with humidity changes. For that reason alone, I would consider using exterior oil based polyurethane.
