Q: I decided I applied three coats of Danish oil. It doesn’t make a sheen or gloss. Is this the way it is supposed to be?
A: Yes. Danish oil is actually a very thin, wipe on varnish. It is designed to be absorbed by the wood and to case harden within, thus adding protection from stains, dirt and water without looking like a film type finish. That said, I will readily admit that if you add enough coats, you will eventually start building up enough layers to develop a sheen, but you’ll need a lot more than three to do that.
Q: Can I put Watco Danish oil atop Minwax Wipe on Poly, or Minwax Wipe on Poly atop Watco Danish oil?
A: Yes. You can put Danish oil, any brand, atop oil based wipe on polyurethane, or vice versa.
