Michael Dresdner

straight talk about wood finishing

Q: You brought a Canterbury color stain to a class you taught at Port Townsend. I have been looking for that color and can’t find it.

A: I suspect that is because you remembered the wrong name. There may well be a Canterbury stain, since companies use all sorts of nonsensical names for stains, but I personally have never heard of one called Canterbury. Thus, I am sure I did not bring that with me. Perhaps it was cabernet, which I seem to recall having that weekend. Like cabernet wine, it is a rich reddish brown color. If I did bring cabernet stain, it was probably from Varathane.

Gentle reminder: A modest donation to this finishing blog can keep it going to help others. Thanks!
